CNC Router - Cut it Out!
A Resource For Event News & Insight (Jan 14 2011)
Not long ago VDA increased its design and fabrication capabilities in a big way with the arrival of our CNC router. Not only are we able to meet our clients needs regarding cut lettering and dimensional graphics but our designers and production staff are utilizing the router in a variety of new and interesting ways. The 54” by 121” router table allows the production staff to work with full 4’ by 8’ sheets of material, while the x, y, and z axis movements allow for a variety of cutting, carving, and inlays increasing both our fabrication speed and precision.
Some interesting design choices have arisen out of the router and its capabilities, like the silhouette panels we recently used for our back bar towers and back lit wall panels at several recent themed events. Bobby Russo, the Director of Creative Services here at VDA, came up with the idea of cutting an opaque material and mounting in behind a translucent material on a frame to create a silhouette design when lit from behind. This design concept was easily achieved with our router and its ability to cut multiples of the same shapes.

The CNC router has been a great addition to VDA's productions and design capabilities and will, as time goes by , allow us to create new and interesting designs to meet our clients needs as well as push the event industry in new and exciting directions. I look forward to updating you on the many new and exciting things that VDA is doing with this exciting tool!
